Folklore group Detva at the A. Sládkovič House of culture in Detva
Town of Detva, name of which the folklore group Detva is bearing is situated directly in the heart of Slovakia. It is situated on foot
of the biggest slovak volcanic mountain Poľana (1457 a.s.l.), which is giving name to the whole area - Podpoľanie (land under Poľana mountain).
The specific wealth of the folk art has been conserved until these days in folk architecture, wonderful folk-costumes and embroideries and also
in carvered products such as shepherd´s fifes and special carvered tomb crosses. Introduction of typical beauty of folk art of the Poľana region is
taking place yearly at the Folklore festival "Pod Poľanou" in Detva.
Folklore group Detva was founded on 18.1.1971 at the Andrej Sládkovič House of Culture in Detva. The Podpoľanie region has immense rich spring of customs
and habits, which folklore group Detva first of all is using as an inspiration.
Folklore group´s repertory presents the authentic folklore of this region in some types of arranged choreografies. The inseparable part of the programme
is typical "Rozkazovačky" - free improvisation and performing of boys in front of the musicians, girl´s dancing-wheels.
The folklore group consists of women singer´s group, soloists, singers and instrumentalists (shepherd´s fife, whistle, concordina"heligonka", bagpipes,minera).
The group is accompanied by the folklore band Detvanček under leadership of Jaroslav Hazlinger.
Folklore group Detva took part in different folklore festivals, performances and competitions in Slovakia and also abroad, where it obtained several awards.
The temperament dances and love melodies from Podpoľanie region had been performed to spectators in France, Poland, Hungary, Germany, former Sowiet Union,
Yugoslavia, Italy, Romania, Czech republic, Algeria, Sweden and Switzerland.
